Channing Tatum is embracing his status as a single girl-dad, but it wasn’t always easy.
In an interview with Parents magazine, Tatum, 40, admits he was scared initially of what it means to be a single father, and the challenges that would come with parenting a girl.
Tatum shares a seven-year-old daughter, Everly, with ex-wife Jenna Dewan.
“When I became a single father, I had a lot of fear about connecting to Everly in every way that a little girl might want,” says the 21 Jump Street star. “I didn’t wear nail polish or know how to braid hair.”

“But now I do both. I jumped with both feet into this magical world, and I was rewarded with a kind of love that I don’t think I would have ever been able to have otherwise.”
The actor opened up about being a single father in the lead up to the release of his first picture book, The One and Only Sparkella, due to be published in May.
It seems as though his worries were nipped in the bud real quick, with Tatum revealing that the book is inspired by ‘Evie’, and their father-daughter bonding time during quarantine.
“Just like Sparkella, Evie loves to play tricks, wear crazy outfits, and be different from everyone,” Tatum says. “She’s bold, beautiful, and magical in every way. We played a lot in her room over quarantine, and it helped flesh out the story.”

“Guys, I don’t know about you but things got a little weird for me in quarantine. I ended up accidentally locking myself in my 7 year old daughter’s room. And I ended up finding my inner child. So this is what I created for my little girl. From what is, I guess, the little girl in me. Thanks for reading,” the Magic Mike actor wrote on his Instagram page.
Tatum’s new everyday look may be a bit different to what fans may expect, switching out Magic Mike’s Velcro-detachable pants for fairy wings.
“I paint my face, I wear tutus — rarely am I around the house without some sort of costume on.”
Tatum met actress Jenna Dewan on the set of Step Up in 2006, and the two later married in Malibu in 2009. The couple shocked fans in 2018 when they announced their separation, and Dewan filed for divorce from Tatum six months later. The divorce was finalised in November 2019.
After the divorce, Tatum was in an on-again, off-again relationship with singer Jessie J for two years, before the couple officially went their separate ways in April 2020.

Dewan, 40, has been a bit luckier in the love department since her split from Tatum, recently welcoming a son, Callum Michael Rebel, with 44-year-old fiancé Steve Kazee in March 2020.
“And just like that, our hearts exploded into all of eternity and beyond. Welcome to the world you little angel,” Dewan captioned the birth announcement on Instagram.
