Marsai Martin continues to set the bar high as she continues to build her media empire. The 16-year-old has yet another project under her belt that has been picked up by a major network.

According to Deadline, Disney Channel has given a pilot order for the new comedy series “Saturdays,” which Marsai will produce through her Genius Entertainment Company. The show was written by Norman Vance Jr., who will also serve as a producer, and Charles Stone III will direct.

The single-camera comedy will follow 13-year-old Paris Johnson, who will be played by Danielle Jalade. The show will focus on Paris and her rolling skating team. Other familiar names that are also a part of the cast include Omar Epps, Golden Brooks, and hip-hop legend Yo-Yo. Jermaine Harris, Daria Johns, and Samantha Smith will also star in the show.

Rafael Garcia, the vice president of Development at Disney Branded Television said, “When we met with Marsai about this project, we couldn’t have been more impressed with her passion for diverse storytelling and commitment to female empowerment. We’re extremely excited to team up with Norman and the Genius Entertainment team to tap into roller-skating culture in a way that’s truly both authentic and aspirational for our audience.”

According to the show’s synopsis, “Saturdays,” will follow “Paris, who, since the age of four, has been honing her skills on the cool parquet floor of Saturdays, a local skating rink owned and operated by a former ’90s hip-hop back-up dancer. With its neon lights, galaxy-painted rink and killer D.J. spinning the latest music, Saturdays is the place to show and prove. Paris is the leader of a skate crew and is determined to take them all the way to the top. However, she has sickle cell disease, and when it flares up, it’ll take every ounce of determination to prove the doubters wrong, including her concerned family.

Congrats to the whole team behind “Saturdays.”
