Britney Spears’ parents have become embroiled in a heated battle over legal fees from the pop star’s conservatorship case.

Britney’s mother Lynne is objecting to attorney fees amounting to over $1.1m ($890,000 USD) from ex-husband Jamie’s law firm, Holland & Knight.

In a new court filing obtained by People, the law firm asked the court to overrule Lynne’s objection, claiming that the 65-year-old is not “acting in the best interests” of the “Toxic” singer.

“Despite having zero involvement in her daughter’s conservatorship until very recently, Lynne Spears is asserting claims as if she were a party directly involved in the litigation (which she is not),” says the document.

In a previous court document also obtained by People, Lynne alleged that the fees from Britney’s conservatorship case were “procedurally and substantively improper.”

The document opposed fees for “unnecessary” work, largely constituting of a “national media tour orchestrated by H&K to promote [Jamie’s attorney] Ms. [Vivian Lee] Thoreen and/or to combat media coverage that cast Mr. Spears in a negative light.”

The document stated, “[Lynne] vehemently objects to the inclusion of services related to ‘Media Matters:’ the national media tour that Mr. Spears’ counsel has embarked upon,” the document read, adding that the work is “directly contrary to [Britney’s] wish for privacy.”

The new court filing from H&K read, “While the Conservator and his counsel have been very cautious, limited, and thoughtful in dealing with the media (a far cry from any ‘national media tour’), Lynne Spears is the one who exploited her daughter’s pain and trauma for personal profit by publishing a book about the Conservatee.”

In 2008, Lynne published a memoir about daughters Jamie Lynn and Britney titled Through the Storm.

The filing continued, “The Conservatee’s life has been under a media microscope, and the last thing she wishes, desires, or derives any benefit from is her Conservator’s attorney spending [her] money to promote herself in the same media that scrutinizes everything that happens to [Britney].”

A new petition hearing in Britney’s case is due to take place on Tuesday.
